A while back I announced that I was a finalist in the Project Imaginat10n contest. Well it has been an excruciating 2 weeks of silence but today I am extremely proud and honored to announce that my photo “Spinning Fire” has won the Canon/Ron Howard Project Imaginat10on contest for the “Setting” category. My photo now has the chance to be selected to inspire one of five celebrity directors.
I would like to extend a HUGE unending thank you to my fans and followers, and to Ron Howard and Canon for this wonderful opportunity. Thank you!!

Project Imaginat10n Campaign
Canon has announced Project Imaginat10n, the first photography-inspired film festival in history where consumer photographs will inspire Hollywood films directed by five celebrities.
Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Biz Stone, Georgina Chapman and James Murphy have signed on board for this endeavor and Ron Howard will be mentoring them along the way.
Each of the talent will bring something new to the table – from fashion designer, Georgina Chapman, to James Murphy, the former frontman of LCD Soundsystem.
The concept behind ‘Project Imaginat10n’ showcases the power still images can have on narrative storytelling, but more importantly, it demonstrates there are no limits with creativity and sources of inspiration can come from anyone or anything.
Last Year’s Project
Last year, Canon approached Ron Howard with an experimental and challenging project – the first ever user generated photo contest to inspire a Hollywood short film.
Canon represents excellence in the field of imaging technology and Ron Howard was thrilled to have the chance to experiment with their newest cameras.
The project was ultimately about tapping into something deeper, the imagination of the consumers.
The project set out to prove that photography could inspire anything, even Ron Howard’s film production.
The campaign engaged the masses who entered photos at a record shattering pace.Eight photos were selected and influenced an award-winning short film, “when you find me,” directed by Ron Howard’s talented daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard.
What to Expect This Time Around
A new exploration of the creative exercise, “Project Imaginat10n,” kicked off on August 14, 2012, at imagination.usa.canon.com
The contest entry period ran from Tuesday, August 14 – Monday, September 24, 2012.
The “Project Imaginat10n” contest featured ten storytelling themes in which consumers submitted their photos: Setting, Time, Character, Mood, Backstory, Relationship, Goal, Obstacle, The Unknown, and Discovery.
Consumers had the chance to submit photos to be narrowed down by Canon, Ron Howard and community voting.
The entries were narrowed down to 91 winners and the five directors selected ten photos, one per theme, to inspire their films.
The “10” in “Imaginat10n,” not only represents ten storytelling elements, but ten films that will ultimately be produced, five of which will be directed by our influencer directors to be showcased at a special Canon “Project Imaginat10n” Film Festival in 2013.
The other five film directors will be announced at a later date.
This year’s project is setting out to prove that we’re all creative, aligning with a diverse group of creative leaders from different fields including TV, film, fashion, music, technology and business who will each use photography to inspire the screenplay of the short film they direct.
